PRACTICE INFORMATION — WHAT WE DO & HOW IT WORKS, WHAT IT COSTS, ETC.

Dear Pet Parent,

Thank you for your interest in Heal! Our practice focus is to promote optimal quality of life for all pets and especially senior dogs and cats. We offer integrative medicine modalities including canine physical rehabilitation (underwater treadmill, cold laser, manual therapy); Traditional Chinese Medicine including nutrition, acupuncture, advanced acupuncture/ pain management and palliative care. We provide adjunctive cancer care which may include all of the above specifically geared towards quality of life.  In addition, we provide post-operative and post-injury physical rehabilitation for all ages.

Routine Pet Healthcare and Your Regular Family Vet:

We work in partnership with your family veterinarian. All patients should maintain a relationship with their local family veterinarian for routine and urgent care, including regular checkups and dental care. We keep in close touch with your family veterinarian and will email a summary of your visits.

We do not provide routine or urgent veterinary care at Heal. We refer you to your family vet if your pet needs x-rays, lab work, dental cleaning, or surgery. We do not provide vaccination or nail trims.

How to get ready for your visit:

If you are a new client, have a new pet, or have not seen us in over a year, you may request an Appointment here.

If you have an appointment coming up, you will receive a link to a portal to submit new pet registration forms.

You may upload records through the portal or ask your family vet to Email previous records, labs, and x rays pertaining to the current condition to [email protected]

What to Expect at your first visit:

Your first visit will take 60 + minutes to meet you and your pet and do a thorough exam and assessment for rehab and/or acupuncture. This is a great opportunity for pets to get to know us and our office, get lots of love, treats, and attention, and start to feel comfortable. They will love coming back when treatments start on your next visit!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often do we come?

We like to take our time with our patients and make sure we are not rushed during our visits. We want to make sure all your concerns are addressed, and our patients can relax and enjoy their time with us.

Typically, we will start off with a 50-minute or longer appointment for the first several weeks. After seeing positive results, we may advise shorter appointments, or less frequent visits. However, if there are new issues or any setbacks, a new-issue assessment ($85) will be required in addition to the therapy visit.

For example, here are some typical treatment plans:

  • Post-op Rehab 1- 2 times/week x 2 weeks, then weekly 8 -12 weeks
  • Acupuncture/chronic pain or mobility or palliative care 1 -2 times per week, then weekly or every-other week, possibly ongoing, based on patient comfort

What should I do when I arrive for my appointment?

Since we do not have a waiting room in our office, you may text 530-539-4516 when you arrive. The door may be locked so our patients can rest and not be disturbed. Please don’t knock.

Please wait outside or in your car. We may be finishing up with another patient when you arrive. Sometimes we run a few minutes behind.  Please arrive early enough so you have time to take a short walk so your pet can relax and use the bathroom before coming into the office.

Please allow a wide space for patients in the office to exit the door. Some are very shy or very bossy and need a lot of space.

Please also be considerate of the other businesses around us who may not all love dogs as much as we do. Please pick up your dog’s poop and respect the Center’s common spaces and flower beds. Unfortunately the Center does not provide public garbage service.

As soon as we are ready, we will come out to meet you!

Dogs who will be using the underwater treadmill MUST eliminate before being allowed in the treadmill. Dogs with cough or diarrhea cannot use the treadmill.

Poop accidents in the treadmill shut it down for the remainder of the day and next day, so we have a “one strike you’re out” policy. A cleaning fee of $200 is charged.

Car-to-clinic drop off is available. Human caregivers may accompany a patient for any visit or they can drop-off.

I’m not sure what supplements or food to give my dog or if what I am giving is any good. Will we discuss this?

Yes! We love to talk about nutrition and supplements! Dr. Turner will answer all our questions and make recommendations for supplements on Fullscript (and you will receive a 10% discount!)

After your first visit you will receive an Email invitation to register and order your supplements. When you purchase on Fullscript, you help fund our Heal Gives Back mission.

All products we offer in the dispensary are medicinal grade, high quality, ethically sourced, and use best manufacturing practices. Since we cannot guarantee the quality or authenticity of pet stores, Costco, Chewy, Amazon, etc. supplement products, we do not recommend them.

What forms of payment are accepted?

All forms of payment are accepted including cash, check, or credit card. Invoices are emailed to you after each transaction. Payment plans are available through Scratch Pay. Pet insurance is accepted.

What is your cancelation policy?

If you need to cancel your appointment, please give us 2 days-notice so we can offer that time to others.

Heal is open by appointment-only usually Tuesday — Friday.

We have a strict cancellation policy and charge $100 for no shows and cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice (unless you are sick). Please try to anticipate the weather and your driving comfort and cancel in advance of storms if necessary. Thank you for your understanding and consideration of our time.

Where is Heal located?

Heal is in the Kingsbury Center at 290 Kingsbury Grade, Suite 23. We are the first corner office on your right in the second group of buildings. We are behind Clyde’s Coffee and If you see Audible’s Bar, you have passed us.

How long has Heal been in Tahoe?

Heal was started about ten years ago and moved to its current location in 2016. Dr. Turner is a licensed veterinarian in California and Nevada since 2002, and trained in acupuncture at the Chi Institute and canine rehabilitation at Canine Rehabilitation Institute.

Our beautiful clinic was designed with pets and people who love them in mind. From our high-traction flooring, sun-filled relaxing space, fresh air and garden-views, soothing music, low-stress handling, aroma therapy, yummy treats, and comfy treatment areas, to our state-of-the-art underwater treadmill, we want both humans and four-legged patients to feel at home here.

What is integrative medicine?

Integrative medicine combines conventional Western medicine with holistic medicine. There are many flavors of integrative medicine, but at Heal we start with your dog or cat’s Western medicine diagnosis and create a treatment plan using our holistic modalities and nutrition to promote quality of life.

I still have questions. How can I get in touch?

Please contact us with any questions  — text or email for the fastest reply. We will be in touch to schedule a time to text or talk. We look forward to working with you!
